OHIO STATE FOOTBALL

College football rankings: Little movement for Ohio State after difficult win

Well, it may not have seemed all that impressive, but thanks to an ugly win against Nebraskaand some helpful results around the country, Ohio State was able to inch higher in the college football rankings after the weekend.

The Buckeyes climbed one spot to No. 7 in the latest Amway Coaches Poll released Sunday afternoon after LSU fell to Alabama at home, dropping from No. 4 to No. 10. That was the lone team ranked higher than Ohio State to lose Saturday despite close calls for Notre Dame and Oklahoma, who both survived upset scares.

Around the Big Ten, Michigan was the only other team to win over the weekend as the Wolverines rose to No. 4 in the polls after taking care of Penn State. The Nittany Lions dropped from No. 13 to No. 20 with the loss, while Iowa fell from No. 18 to being unranked after losing on a late field goal in West Lafayette to Purdue.

Oppositely, the Buckeyes remained in the No. 8 spot in the latest AP Poll after Week 10 of play. Despite the win over the Cornhuskers being enough to slightly boost Ohio State in the coaches poll, West Virginia’s victory over Texas in Austin proved to be more impressive as the Mountaineers jumped five places and over the Buckeyes into No. 7.

Much like the coaches poll, Michigan’s thrashing of Penn State was enough to put the Wolverines at No. 4 while the Nittany Lions fell seven spots to No. 21. Iowa also fell out of the AP Poll after falling at Purdue and Michigan State rejoined the ranks at No. 24 after beating Maryland, just in time for a matchup with the Buckeyes Saturday.
