Possibly the most anticipated sequel of 2017, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has kept most of its secrets tightly under wraps.
But now Sean Gunn – who plays Ravager and Yondu’s first mate Kraglin, and is the brother of director James Gunn – has revealed some titbits to Comicbook.com about how the movie will begin and how much time has passed since we were last with the Guardians.
“When the movie starts, it’s only a couple of months after the first movie,” he says. “The Ravagers have not gone hard after Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) after he double crossed them with the Infinity Stone.”
If you recall, the gang banded together to defeat Ronan The Accuser and double-crossed the Ravagers by delivering them a Troll doll rather than the infinity stone.
But now the Ravagers are questioning the loyalty of Yondu (played by Michael Rooker).
“There’s a little rumbling amongst the Ravagers, like, ‘Where does Yondu’s allegiance lay here? Is he going soft on Quill? So, the Ravagers have to make a decision of what they’re gonna do about Yondu and I think Kraglin is a key part of that,” says Gunn.
Certainly the footage we’ve seen indicated Yondu is going to join forces with the Guardians, and footage revealed at Comic-Con showed him and Rocket being imprisoned by the Ravagers, which would fit.
Exactly what part Kraglin will have in that isn’t so clear yet.
We do know we’ll be meeting several new characters though, including Mantis – a psychic woman born the prophesied saviour of a race of alien trees – Ego The Living Planet, played by Kurt Russell, who is also Peter Quill’s dad (Ego, not Kurt), and Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) who, according to Debicki, “is this leader of the Sovereign people… she enlists the Guardians to help her fight a sort of galactic beast”.
