New year, new Mambacita?
Former Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant announced Tuesday night that he and his wife, Vanessa, are expecting their fourth child -- a baby girl, or as Bryant wrote, "another #mambacita."
The couple already has three daughters: Natalia, Gianna and Bianka.
Bryant made the announcement on his Instagram account.
Bryant, 40, retired from the NBA in 2016 after a 20-year career.
The New Year will add a new Bryant to the clan of Kobe and Vanessa.
The retired NBA Lakers star and his wife announced on social media they are expecting their fourth daughter, or “mambacita,” who will join their brood this year.Bryant’s announcement read:
“Vanessa and I are beyond excited to announce we are expecting another #mambacita to go along with Natalia, Gianna and Bianka.”
The couple has been married since 2001. Bryant played his entire 20-year career with the Lakers; he retired in 2016.
In late 2018, Bryant published a book titled “The Mamba Mentality: How I play,” in which he gives readers a deep look at the detailed approach he used to prepare mentally and physically to excel at the game.
After announcing his family’s upcoming addition, Kobe took some gentle (or not so gentle) ribbing from fans about his inability to produce a son. One Twitter user imploringly asked that their fifth child be a boy.
In a 2017 interview with ExtraTV, Kobe Bryant said he had taken some ribbing from his friends, too.
“My friends say, ‘It takes a real man to make a boy,’ ” Bryant says. “I’m like, ‘Dude, it takes a king to make a princess… get in line.’ ”
