All That Remains guitarist Oli Herbert has died at age 44, the metal band confirmed on Wednesday.
MassLive.com reports the Massachusetts native was found dead in a pond on Tuesday afternoon at his home in Stafford Springs, Connecticut. According to Connecticut State Trooper spokesperson Tanya Compagnone, police found the body in the pond on his property after Herbert was reported missing.
TMZ reports no foul play is suspected. An autopsy is scheduled to determine a cause of death.
"We were devastated to learn that Oli Herbert, our friend, guitar player, and founding member of All That Remains, has passed away," the band wrote on Facebook Wednesday. "Oli was an incredibly talented guitarist and song writer who defined Rock and Metal from the Northeast. His impact on the genres and our lives will continue indefinitely... The band and family request that you please respect their privacy and remember Oli by celebrating the great music he made."
According to Billboard, Herbert and lead singer Phil Labonte were the only remaining original members of the rock and metal group. Herbert appeared on all of the band's nine albums, including the upcoming "Victim of the New Disease," due Nov. 9.
"Hello everyone this is Beth, Oli's widow. Thank you all for the kind thoughts and words. I don't want to go into what happened until we have a complete picture, but as soon as we do there will be a statement from the family on this page," Beth Herbert, Oli's wife of 14 years, said in a statement on Facebook. "In the meantime, please respect our privacy as there are still relatives being informed of Oli's passing. Thank you."
All That Remains formed in Springfield, Mass., in 1998 and released their first album in 2002. The band was nominated for best breakthrough artist at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards in 2009, thanks to hits like "Two Weeks" and "Forever in Your Hands."
All That Remains performed in the Syracuse area several times, including at K-Rockathon in 2013 and 2014.
Really shocked to learn of Oli Herbert passing away. AE and ATR toured together years ago and Oli always used to come out and see us play when we came through his area. The nicest guy. The metal community’s lost another great musician way too early. #RIPOliHerbert #AllThatRemains
