Man starts GoFundMe campaign to help fund border wall
MONROE, La. (KNOE) – A man is looking to help make the U.S. – Mexico border wall a reality through crowd-funding.
Brian Kolfage, a 37-year-old retired airman, has started a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $1 billion. He says that’s the maximum goal allowed by GoFundMe.
As of Thursday morning, he’s raised over $4.4 million. That’s over the course of roughly 3 days, and donations are still coming in.
President Donald Trump was asking for $5 billion for the wall, but he’s had trouble securing funding from Congress. The estimated cost of the wall varies. Trump told the Associated Press he could do it for “$10 billion or less” in April of 2017.
On the GoFundMe page, Kolfage says: “If the 63 million people who voted for Trump each pledge $80, we can build the wall.” That would get the roughly $5 billion Trump most recently asked Congress to approve. It would take roughly $16 from each of those 63 million people to reach the $1 billion crowd-funding goal.
