Buzz Aldrin is deploying the Solar Wind Collector (SWC), a foil sheet which he is pointing at the Sun. Note the word 'Shade' printed on the bottom of the back side. The word 'Sun' is printed on the sunward side. At the end of the EVA, after leaving the SWC exposed to the Sun for about 1 hour and 17 minutes, Buzz will roll up the foil and pack it in a bag for analysis back on Earth. Note the considerable clearance between the bottom of the Descent Engine bell and the surface beneath it. Little West Crater is near the horizon on the lefthand side of the image. Note the pattern of scratch marks running from the MESA toward the lower left that were created by the TV cable as Neil Armstrong took the camera away from the LM on the tripod. Neil's footprints are generally to the right of the cable scratches as he moved sideways out from the Lunar Module. Several potentially foot-grabbing loops remain in the cable. The rendezvous radar and various antennas on the top of the ascent stage are labeled in a detail ( 223k ). #32 10 Strange Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know About Earth

PUBLISHED March 16, 2018

There’s no doubt that planet Earth is awe-inspiring. That’s even more true for the handful of humans who’ve seen it from space with their own eyes.

“We tend to think of ourselves as a weird, tiny little human being on a very large, powerful planet, and therefore clearly irrelevant to anything that might affect the planet at a planetary scale,” says former NASA astronaut Kathryn Sullivan, who in 1984 became the first U.S. woman to walk in space. “In some ways that’s true. But if you step back and look at the planet in total, you see how richly interconnected and intertwined all the actual systems are.”

Even with all its magnificence and majesty, Earth is also just kind of strange. Aside from the fact that it’s the only planet known (so far) to support life, it has a bunch of inherent quirks, from geophysical weirdness to the landscapes adorning its surface to the organisms it supports. And the more we learn about Earth’s peculiarities, the more we grow to appreciate and treasure its many wonders—starting with the air we breathe.

#33 Grown man Ben Carson blames his wife for the $31,000 dining room setU.S.Pennsylvania GOP Moves To Impeach Supreme Court Democrats For Gerrymandering Ruling

One of the most powerful men in government, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, is terrified of desks.

Carson disclosed his highly un-understandable anxiety in a House Appropriations Committee hearing on Tuesday. The Secretary was asked to speak about the $31,000 dining set he recently tried to purchase for his office. Carson then used the opportunity to pass the buck. First, he blamed formidable desks.

Then, he blamed his wife, who... does not serve in government.

#34 Bombing suspect bought materials at Home Depot

Video by CBS News

BREAKING:

A Republican congressman from Texas says the Austin bombing suspect bought a lot of his bomb-making equipment from a Home Depot store in his hometown.

U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, a Republican from Austin who is chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, told KXAN-TV that authorities retraced the suspect's steps after he was caught on surveillance video at an Austin-area FedEx store. McCaul says investigators obtained the suspect's license plate number and were able to identify him, then track what he purchased at a Home Depot.

Buying a car is pretty exciting. But if you want to get the best deal, it’s best to contain your enthusiasm and limit the amount of information you share. The knowledge that gives you the power to make a great deal can also be used to the dealer's advantage.

Any skilled negotiator will tell you that the more they know about their buyer, the more money they can get from them. It’s in your best interest to be friendly, but firm, and only give them the information you want them to have when you want them to have it.

Your primary mission early in the buying process is to set the price of the car without any discussion of financing or a trade-in. Bundling all three together can breed confusion, which is in the salesperson’s best interest, not yours.

To keep things on track, take a look at the following slides to see what you don’t want to tell the car salesperson.
