#1 Ash cloud from Hawaii volcano sparks aviation red alert

An ash plume rises from the Kilauea volcano on Hawaii's Big Island on May 15, 2018, in Volcano, Hawaii. The U.S. Geological Survey said a recent lowering of the lava lake at the volcano's Halemaumau crater 'has raised the potential for explosive eruptions' at the volcano.

#2 North Korea Threatens To ‘Reconsider’ Trump Summit, Cancels South Korea Talks

Deviating from a monthslong trend of warming ties, North Korea abruptly announced Tuesday that it was calling off high-level talks with Seoul in protest of recent joint military exercises conducted by the United States and South Korea.

Pyongyang also issued a chilly warning to the U.S. about the planned June summit with President Donald Trump, suggesting the fate of the historic meeting could also be in peril if Washington insisted on “unilateral nuclear abandonment.”

Announcing the cancellation of the talks with Seoul, which had been scheduled to take place Wednesday, North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency condemned the joint military exercises as a “flagrant challenge” to the declaration adopted in April by the two Koreas.

“This exercise, targeting us, which is being carried out across South Korea, is … an intentional military provocation running counter to the positive political development on the Korean Peninsula,” said KCNA.

The exercises, codenamed “Max Thunder,” began Friday and involved about 100 U.S. and South Korean warplanes, including B-52 bombers, the report said.

#3 DOJ responds to request for info on Comey’s law professor friend

Committee Chairmen Gowdy and Goodlatte want information about the Columbia Law professor's status at the FBI and his handling of James Comey's memos; chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge reports from Washington.

The Justice Department said Tuesday it responded to demands from Capitol Hill Republicans to turn over documents about former FBI Director James Comey's law professor friend who last year released contents of Comey’s memos to the media.

DOJ officials told Fox News the response was transmitted to Capitol Hill, but it was not immediately clear what the response was.

The House Oversight Committee told Fox News it did not receive any documents from the DOJ, but did receive a verbal response and expected to get the documents by Thursday.

Earlier this month, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., made the request for records on Daniel Richman in a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

#5 North Korea: We Don’t Want U.S. Summit Focused Only on Denuclearization

A senior North Korean official said Pyongyang isn’t interested in a summit with the U.S. focused solely on denuclearization and accused Washington of trying to “impose on our dignified state the destiny of Libya or Iraq.”

In a Wednesday statement attributed to Kim Kye Gwan, a senior foreign ministry official, North Korea said it doesn’t want to deal away its nuclear weapons for economic compensation or benefits. That cast doubt on the North’s willingness to proceed with a planned June 12 summit with President Donald Trump...

#6 Blast at California building that killed 1 may have been intentional

An explosion at a Southern California building that killed one person and injured three others may have been an "intentional detonation," law enforcement officials familiar with the investigation said, although other officials cautioned that a cause and whether it was intentional has not been determined.

The investigation into the explosion that occurred in Aliso Viejo at around 1 p.m. local time on Tuesday (4 p.m. ET) is being assisted by the FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, officials said.

Multiple law enforcement officials familiar with the investigation told NBC News that preliminarily, the explosion is believed to have been the result of an "intentional detonation," and that authorities were investigating how the explosive device was sent or delivered to the building. Those sources said it appeared to have been contained in some sort of package.

But Orange County sheriff's Commander Dave Sawyer told reporters Tuesday evening local time that "we cannot say exclusively that this explosion was intentional," adding that "as soon as we can confirm that information, we will share it with you."

The woman that was killed was not identified. That person and the three people who were injured were likely in close proximity to the explosion, Sawyer said. The blast occurred at a suite on the first floor of the building, he said.

#7 11-year-old girl helping her mom killed when tree falls onto car during Northeast storm

An 11-year-old girl in New York, who was helping her mother unpack their car during a powerful storm, was killed when a tree snapped and fell onto their vehicle.

The girl’s mother had just parked the family SUV at their Newburgh City home when violent wind gusts toppled a tree and trapped the girl inside, FOX5 NY reported. Newburgh is about 60 miles north of New York City.

"The mother was on the porch, crying, 'My daughter, my daughter,'" Ramon Rodriguez, a witness, told NBC News 4 New York. "It kind of gave me a chill when I first saw it."

Firefighters responded and used power tools in an attempt to cut away the tree, FOX5 NY reported. The mother stood outside the car in tears as the fire department worked.

#8 Women Score Major Victories in House Primary Races in Pennsylvania

A state representative, an Air Force veteran and two high-powered lawyers — all women — won Democratic House primaries on Tuesday in Pennsylvania, where a record number of women ran for House seats in a year of intense political enthusiasm among female Democrats.

It was a night of victories for at least seven Democratic women running for the House in a state that has an all-male congressional delegation of 20 and a Statehouse dominated by male politicians. Female candidates showed strength in nearly every region of Pennsylvania, from the Philadelphia suburbs to the conservative southwest.

Madeleine Dean, the state House member; Chrissy Houlahan, the veteran; and Mary Gay Scanlon, one of the lawyers, each won in Philadelphia suburban districts that they are now favored to carry in November, according to results from The Associated Press. Their primary victories raise the likelihood of women cracking the state’s all-male congressional delegation.

#9 Georgia high school football player drowns in Florida days before graduation

A Georgia high school senior drowned Sunday in Florida days before he was set to graduate.

Jaylen Lott, 18, was among several swimmers who were calling for help in the waters near St. Augustine Beach, officials said. Rip currents were a risk that day, St. Johns County Fire Rescue Lt. Lucas Smith said.

Two swimmers, a man and a child, were able to be rescued from the water, according to Action Jax 30. However, it took rescuers 90 minutes to find Lott while searching in the water and from the air.

Lott was finally pulled from the water and taken to a hospital in critical condition, St. Augustine Beach police said. He was later pronounced dead.

#10 Google is delaying a Chrome audio update that broke countless web games

Google is partially and temporarily rolling back a recent Chrome change that blocked autoplaying audio, after web developers complained that it had broken countless games and apps.

The update rolled out with Chrome version 66 in early May, and it was intended to quiet annoying ads and videos that would drive users toward ad-blocking software. But it also ended up completely removing the audio from interactive web projects that relied on specific commands, which created problems for artists — and doomed any abandoned projects to silence.

“The team here is working hard to improve things for users and developers, but in this case we didn’t do a good job of communicating the impact of the new autoplay policy to developers,” writes Google product manager John Pallett.

This doesn’t fully remove the autoplay-blocking elements of Chrome 66. Instead, Google is rolling back limits on the Web Audio API system used by app developers, while leaving the limits on general audio and video autoplay intact. It’s also not a permanent measure. Pallett says that the limits will return in Chrome’s version 70 release in October, and he’s still urging developers to change their code following Google’s guidelines.

Developer Benji Kay, who created several online audio tools that were affected by this change, responded critically to Pallett’s post. “Simply delaying the enacting of this policy doesn’t solve any of the major concerns” with its contents, says Kay. Another developer, Ashley Gullen, previously laid out a proposal to fix the problem — but Pallett says it’s a “non-trivial user interface challenge” that Google is still examining. “We are still exploring options to enable great audio experiences for users, and we will post more detailed thoughts on that topic here later,” he writes.
